David Maddox: Dates for the diary

I spoke to one senior Labour backbench MP today who has been used as a campaign co-ordinator who is adamant that the election will not by 6 May but April 15.
His reasoning for this is the the next set of GDP figures which are due out on 23 April, St George's day. As with the knight and the mythical dragon he fears that they would slay any Labour recovery.
The GDP release has already been well trailed, but for those of you who have not been following the election date rumour and speculation, the theory is that the long hard winter will mean these figures will make it look as though Britain's fragile recovery has come to a halt.
The only doubts he believes Gordon Brown will have in going early is that it would mean Labour would have to spread its paltry funds over two elections to avoid disaster in the English council elections on 6 May.
But if Mr Brown really does decide that the GDP results would be too damaging 10 days before a 6 May vote, the the last day he could call an election is 19 March, because he has to give 17 parliamentary working days between informing the Queen and the poll itself.
Interestingly this falls just before 24 March, which is the day many speculate the budget will be unveiled by Alistair Darling, which would bring it further forward.

David, isn't it time that you wrote to tell us why comment on Labour story's is often censored, confirmation of the legal challenges that Scottish labour have invoked to silence the publics view on their shenanigans?

Or has Simon Pia got your goat.

I think COSLA might need to be brought in here, it's becoming clear that his close confidants and senior staff knew about this situation for a long time.

The DEA met with him last May, that was before the Glasgow NE By Election and also before the labour Group at Glasgow City Council refused to attend a council discussion on organised crime called for by the minority SNP group.

This, much like the accusations of bully with brown, reeks of a culture of dismissiveness, a general sweeping under the carpet rather than dealing with the problem.

That Purcell's diary alone appears to have been servely curtailed (every monday apparently) because of his activities is evident enough to mount a COSLA Investigation in the actions of the leader's advisors and just how far down the chain in the Labour Group and party this goes.

I sincerely hope to god that nothing comes from the apparent post mortem to be carried out on this Labour activist youngster who Steven Purcell employed in the council and whom the News of the World cites as often visiting Steven Purcell in his office.

This is more than personal tragedy, as the Times reports, this points to a kind of 'culture' prevalent within Glasgow City Council, one of the longest running hegemonies in the UK.

Time to blow out the cobwebs and start a COSLA Investigation into the council's key financial dealings, property, contracts and licensing decisions.

The Scotsman really needed to start prefacing it's story's with a reason why comments are not allowed.

A simple explanation that they have received legal warnings from people representing individuals or the labour Party will suffice.

Labour are in the process of trying to silence the online public.
