Glasgow North East: Willie Bain, Labour. Prime Minister visits Glasgow
I was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister to the constituency this afternoon.
Gordon and I visited North Glasgow College – a shining example of what Labour has achieved in the area. I’m proud that Gordon was so impressed with the building, and the opportunities that the college provides for people in my area.
It’s sad that some people want to talk down our community, but I think the college is a great example of the changes I have seen in my life here.
I’ve put some more information up on my website. The man in the photo with the Prime Minister is my dad (also Willie). He was really proud to meet the Prime Minister.
It was taken inside our campaign centre, which is in the old college building over the road from the new one. The building was opened by a former in 1909 by Earl Rosebery who was Prime Minister in the 1890s. The foyer contains a moving and sobering war memorial to the college students who died in the First World War.

Good grief so you are still blaming the Tories for unemployment then? I know 80's retro is in but that's taking it a bit too far. The man your da is pictured with has been variously the Chancellor of the Exchequer or the Prime Minister since 1997. That is twelve years. Labour have held the constituency for 74 years. I don't think this ''it wisnae me it was a big Tory who ran away'' thing will work.
Hope no-one mentioned the Iraq invasion and the deceit involved leading up to it.
I see the Scotsman only managed to interview two individuals who met the great man. One said it was exciting, the other said he was great. No dissent allowed in the Scotsman - that must have pleased Gordon.
This guy willie bain appears borderline mentally defective .'i was proud to meet the pm ','my dad was proud' WTF ! I was just waiting for 'we all had an ice cream .mine was chocolate '.no wonder this constituency is as bad as it is with people like him representing them
Did anyone see the item on the Channel 4 news tonight about the By-election? (06/11/09)
It was endless shots of Gordon and Willie together together in North Glasgow College with a breathless story about the rise of the BNP in the constituency. Unless you'd heard that the BNP was, "in a fight for third place", at the beginning of the piece you'd have thought that it was a straight Labour - BNP fight in Glasgow.
David Kerr got less of speaking part than Ruth Davidson and Charlie Kennedy spoke for Eileen Baxendale because she's now too much of a liability to let loose on her own. Then again, though they interviewed Gordon Brown I don't remember them letting Willie on the air.
The media is determined to either attack or ignore the SNP.
Ronan, I don't agree with Willie Bain on much, but that's a truly pathetic comment.
No it isn't James. Bain is talking to us as if he is giving a wee chat on politics to a primary seven class.
Where ronan went wrong (sorry pal) is that Bain apparently thinks that WE are mentally defective.
Observer,
He can only hope!
Have you compared the language used in willies;s various posts, they are patently not the same person.
Scottish labour are at it and the Scotsman if it wasn't asleep on watch would have spotted it by now.
It's only a matter of time before David Maddox announces that he's standing for Labour come the 2011 elections.
God help us all.
My sincere apologies to Willie Bain - I understand that he was against the Iraq invasion. Co-incidentally so are most of the voters in Glasgow North-East.
I was going to ask a few probing questions, but since Willie, sorry "Scottish Labour" hasn't responded to any so far, I'll not bother.
How does Willie work in London and yet claim to live in Glasgow? How big is his carbon footprint? Is it true that his name appears on the Electoral Roll in London?
Does he support Trident and its renewal?
Does he think that the present state of the constituency he is contesting reflects well on the Labour Party, on Michael Martin and on him as the local Labour Party secretary?
Willie isn't saying.
Willie. Ive asked the Scotsman to ask you these questions before but since they have not, here they are again.
Do you agree that your predecessor’s MP’s expenses were excessive in that he claimed £75,000 "expenses" to run a second home with NO mortgage... while living FREE in a stately London palace?
Mr Martin – supposed to be in charge of cracking down on the Westminster gravy train - was actually milking the public by claiming the money, even though he and wife Mary lived free during the week in the Speaker's opulent grace-and-favour home in the Palace of Westminster. Unlike most MPs, who have mortgages or rents to pay on constituency homes, he owns his £400,000 detached villa in Glasgow outright.
His expenses claims for his second home, totalled £17,166 in 2007, and £75,324 over the last six years.
Q. Will you undertake not to deceive your officials, unlike your predecessor, Speaker, Michael Martin, whose salary was £138,000, deceived the public over taxpayer-funded taxi journeys taken by his wife Mary - for which she claimed more than £4,000 in expenses?
Journalists were told that she had used the taxis while shopping for food for official functions, but it emerged that the "functions" concerned were actually personal occasions.
Q. Will you refuse Air miles for trips paid for by the tax payers of Glasgow NE and elsewhere, unlike your predecessor Martin who earned more than a million Air Miles on trips to and from Glasgow, despite the fact that MPs are banned from using Air Miles for personal trips?
The trips were funded by the taxpayer - but seven members of Mr Martin's family used many of the air miles.
Seanair, I'm unclear whether he actually pays any council tax whatsoever.

He puts it on Lord Martin of Sprinburn's open account.

So many questions -so few answers

Does Gordon Brown or anyone really know anything about William Bain, the Labour candidate in Glasgow North East?
He is curently employed as a law lecturer in London at the London South Bank University but there are no other proper biographical details about him. As a lecturer you would think he did research and attended academic conferences but there is no record of these on Google. He is a mystery man. Does anyone know:
- what did he do between 1995 and 2003?
- where does he live when he is working at LSBU?
- what does he do in his non-work life?
What does Willie Bain think the advantage is to have multi millionaire and former Rangers Player, Sir Alex Ferguson endorsing his campaign in poor, prdominately Catholic Glasgow N.E.?
End London Rule Gordon!
I;m just curious as to what Mr Bain's policies are. He hasn't said a thing yet about what [precisely] he can do for GNE, or about anything. He also doesn't seem to realise this is a Westminster seat.
