ScottishToryBoy: A lot of fuss over nothing?

I think I’m probably one of the few bloggers that hasn’t yet written about Nick Griffin appearing on Question Time tonight, so I thought I’d break the duck now.

Based on some of the rantings stuff I have read, you would think we were approaching some sort of apocalypse as opposed to an elected representative being given a platform on Question Time. It is mostly those in the New Labour camp that have the biggest gripe with the leader of the extreme left-wing BNP appearing on TV. Young Yousuf of YappingYousuf fame seems to have gotten himself worked up into a wee tizz over this and Welsh Secretary Peter Hain wanted the BNP banned from appearing and is still handing out free legal advice.

Maybe I’m just getting cynical in my old age, but I suspect both the BBC and BNP will be fairly happy with the media coverage that this whole affair is getting. Like many I believe the views of the BNP are utterly abhorrent but down to their electoral “success” they are perfectly entitled to appear on Question Time. I note that David Dimbleby has been cleared to quiz Griffin on his denial of the Holocaust.

I should also note, I’m not going to even bother watching the show, that’s how little I actually care.

Having heard Mr Griffin a few times on radio and the TV in interviews, I can't say that I consider him much of a target. Setting aside that his speaking voice isn't up to much, although I've not heard him in a Nuremburg context, he doesn't seem particularly fast on his feet nor witty unlike say Alan Clark. I am with you that refusing him exposure does more harm than good as it adds to the victimhood that he is good at portraying. If messers Straw and Huhne can't run rings round him, shame on them.

I'm inclined to agree, STB; if the BNP are afforded time for PPBs, can legally leaflet, canvass and otherwise propogate their views, then why should QT be deemed off-limits?

Anyone who's interested will know where the Griffin/BNP stand on the issues, so it's unlikely that many minds will be changed, thus the fuss seems to be merely related to the symbolism, and to that extent the appearance won't do Griffin any good other than to provide a warm glow to his existing support.

On the other hand it may provide a chance for the few disillusioned but deluded who have switched from the mainstream parties to the BNP to see them exposed for what they are, thus to that extent it must be a good thing.

However, I must disagree about watching QT - I don't normally bother, but it's become the political 'must see' of the year for me!

Which I suspect transaltes into a resounding success for the BNP and BBC - job done!

I wouldn't have thought a Tory would care too much about the rise of right-wing fascists like Griffin ! Bit of a home from home for most of you !

I refute your notion that they are a right wing party. They are, after all, a nationalist socialist party.

Nick Griffin claims to have an affinity with Moseley and Churchill and says his politics reflect that . I know that both of these men have held memberships to the Conservative party . Or , as i suspect , are you another one of these double-digit IQ , lip-servicing Cameronites , who , being consumend by the false hope of making it to goverment , have no time to research the racist bigots who have graced your own party .

Maybe you mis-spelt "refuse my notion" as "refute" ! You cannot and will not refute what i've just said - it's not possible .
