David Maddox: Half term report cards

Here are the spoof half term report cards put together by Labour and distributed to hacks prior to FMQs today (click on the link):
Report%20Cards_Layout%202.pdf

Pity that Iain Gray, the Scottish Labour leader, apparently forgot to actually use them in his four questions preferring his usual mantra on broken promises.

Nevertheless a spokesman for Alex Salmond felt the need to put out a response to them:
"The verdict of the people is what counts, which on the basis of the 50 key policies we have delivered over the past two years is highly satisfactory. The SNP have a commanding lead in the polls, even at the government's mid-term point. The score Iain Gray should be worried about is that only 7% of Scots support him to be First Minister - Alex Salmond is more popular than Iain Gray even among Labour supporters!"

The statement came with this briefing:

The marks may be poor all round, but, as the SNP, say the final examiners (the voters) will give their verdict in 2011.

This is the kind of daft stunt the SNP used to pull when they were in opposition and had no realistic chance of being in anything else.

As a signal of Labour's mindset it is very encouraging for the SNP.

As FMQ, and any other available opportunity, seems to be a constant criticism of the SNP by the opposition parties would it not be a good idea, in Scotland's interests, to propose a vote of no confidence at Holyrood and give the voters the opportunity to vote for parties with the best interest of Scotland, and it's inhabitants, at heart.

"He would benefit from two hours of PE
a week."

More personal smears from Labour.

Are they saying that ian Gray's twitching eye affliction is fair game then?

"Patrick is still not talking to him and
only communicates by twitter"

I mean really, is this passing for actual party political material?

There's a story here, a pity the Scotsman chooses not to expose this kind of personal abuse properly.

"He dithers over answers and must learn to express himself in clear English"

Again, this appears to be alluding to speech impediments.

Is there any place in Scottish politics for this kind of orchestrated smear campaing.

Might Ian Gray have looked at these and decided against raising them rather than David Maddox's spin about 'forgetting them' out of sheer embarrassment and potential litigation?

C'mon David, start doing your job.

David,

Could the paucity of comments on this blog be down to the fact that you never reply to any comments made?

What is the point of the Scotsman setting up this blog if none of the journalists take part in any debate engendered by the relevant article?
